With talk of the metaverse, and virtual and mixed reality technology becoming staples of our professional and daily lives, it’s understandable to want to know more about what’s going on behind-the-scenes.
Did you know, alongside the boundary-pushing headsets (XR-3, VR-3 and Aero), Varjo’s team has developed much of the underlying technology and software experiences that are pushing XR and VR into the fast lane in the 2020s? Varjo’s explosive rise to the forefront of the technology has been thanks to a combination of an industry-leading team of experts consistently breaking new ground in hardware, software, and optics, and a collection of inspirational partners including the likes of Boeing, Volvo, Unity, Kia, Lockheed Martin and many more.
There is so much inspirational work going on in and around Varjo, that the new Varjo Lab section of Varjo.com aims to peel back the curtains and showcase the latest and greatest from the XR/VR/AR space, directly from those who are driving it forward.
What is the Varjo Lab Blog?
Varjo Lab Blog is a new stream featuring content authored directly by Varjo employees, or featuring guest posts from other friends and partners in the industry. With no strict restrictions on how content is put together here, the scope is wide open, but expect overviews of experimental XR/VR technology, diaries of passion projects, interviews, how-to guides, opinion pieces and hot takes on industry news.
At the top left of this page, you can click the white Varjo logo to head to the main Varjo website. However, if you click the pink lab text below it, you will remain in this seperate new Varjo Lab section of our website, and you can browse the articles that have already been posted.
How can I contribute?
The Varjo Lab blog is open to guest posts, be they written pieces, videos, podcasts, you name it. If you would like to show off your XR flight sim cockpit build, show how you have implemented the Varjo Lab Tools application into your team’s project, give your take on the metaverse, or contribute any way, shape or form; don’t hesitate to get in touch. We won’t bite!
Additionally on the roadmap for the development of the blog is adding in a service for on-post comment feeds, so even if you don’t want to contribute a full content piece, there should soon be an avenue to have your voice heard.
How can I continue the conversation?
We do currently have a Discord server, with its very own channel for Varjo Lab. After each Lab article is published we will set up a thread there if you want to discuss the topics raised. To access the Varjo Discord server, click the icon below.
What is the Varjo Lab Tools application?
Varjo Lab Tools is a standalone application available to all Varjo users. Designed to give developers and enthusiasts an unprecedented level of real-time flexibility in XR and VR setups, it currently allows users to make on-the-fly adjustments to masking setups, pass-through camera settings, depth testing, and more.
